Public Works Director

We are looking for a self-motivated individual to be in charge of our Public Works Department. Main duty for job is road maintenance and repair. Other duties include minor repairs to the Municipal Building & grounds, at the campground and all Town parks or public areas, and help with some community events as needed. Public Works is responsible for all aspects of maintenance of the Municipal Cemetery. This position may also require mowing of all Town areas as needed. Being on call for snow removal during winter months is required. Applicant must have a CDL and be proficient in the operation of a backhoe, and must also be able to perform routine equipment repair. Individual selected must be able to work with minimal supervision, have some experience dealing with the public, and be able to work within a set budget. Random drug screenings are required.
This is a full-time 40 hours per week position, with potential overtime during winter months. Pay is based on experience, but is negotiable for the right applicant. Benefits include full health insurance paid by the Town, paid vacation, sick time and Earned Paid Leave, and a monthly cell-phone usage stipend.

Deputy Clerk

The Town of Portage Lake is seeking applications for the position of part-time Deputy Town Clerk. This is a 20 hours per week position, but will require more hours during Election Days or covering the office on the Clerk’s days off. The Deputy Clerk is a direct assistant to the Town Clerk. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

          * Registering motor vehicles, recreational vehicles, and dogs and issuing hunting/fishing licenses

          * Receipting property tax payments and other revenues

          * Certifying Vital Records copies

          * Answering the phone & helping customers

          * Duties related to municipal/state/federal elections

          * Various weekly and monthly reporting to state agencies as assigned by the Clerk

          * Cashing up at the end of the day with the Clerk

          * Some budgetary tasks

          * May serve as Town Clerk for Nashville Plantation if appointed

Applicants must have good organizational and computer skills, and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Windows operating system. Applicants must also be self-reliant, dependable, work well with the public, and have basic math skills. Prior office experience is a plus. All required training will be provided by the Town.
