Animal Control Officer

Servicing Portage Lake and Nashville Plt.

Duties Include:

1. Enforce the Animal Control Laws of the State of Maine within the boundaries of Portage Lake & Nashville Plt. pursuant to 7 MRSA Chapter 725 § 3927 et seq.

2. Within six months of appointment become certified by the State of Maine as an Animal control officer pursuant to 7 MRSA § 3927.

3.  In conjunction with the Portage Lake town office, serve warnings to those Portage Lake & Nashville Plt. dog owners who fail to register their dogs in accordance with state law by January 1st each year.

4. Maintain a telephone number for publication by the Portage Lake Town Office where the public can call to report animal control issues.

5. Investigate, prepare a report, and deliver said report to the proper authorities in regard to all animal bite reports in accordance with state statute.

6. When practical, transport stray animals to the Central Aroostook Humane Society in Presque Isle.

7. Dispose of carcasses of dead animals in accordance with any Maine State Policy that may be in the travel lane or shoulder of a public highway, road or street.

8. Investigate all reports of alleged animal abuse and make a written report of the findings on said complaints.

Town Clerk Job Description

The Town of Portage Lake is seeking applications for the position of part-time Town Clerk (26.25 hours per week).

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

        * Agent for Bureau of Motor Vehicles & IF&W

          * Elections Facilitator for municipal, state & federal elections

          * Registrar of Voters

          * Receipting registrations, property tax payments and other revenues

          * Certifying Vital Records copies

          * Customer service

          * Various weekly and monthly reporting to state agencies     

          * Cashing up & reconciling the cash drawer at the end of the day

          * Budgetary & Payroll tasks as requested

          * Serving as Deputy Town Clerk for Nashville Plantation

Applicant must have good organizational and computer skills, and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Windows operating system. Applicants must also be self-motivated, dependable, work well with the public, and have basic math skills. Prior office experience is a plus. All required training will be provided by the Town. Pay depends on experience. Benefits include paid vacation, sick and earned paid leave time.

Public Works Foreman Position
Public Works Foreman Job Description

Immediate Opening!

We are looking for a self-motivated individual to be in charge of our Public Works Department. Applicant must have a CDL and be proficient in the operation of a backhoe. Applicant must also be able to perform routine equipment repair. Individual selected must be able to work with minimal supervision, have some experience dealing with the public, and be able to work within a set budget. Other duties may include minor repairs in the Municipal Building, at the Transfer Station, and all Town parks or public areas, including the municipal cemetery, and help with some community events as needed. This position may also require mowing of all Town areas as needed and requires being on call for snow removal during winter months.

This is a full-time 40 hours per week position. Pay is based on experience, but is negotiable for the right applicant. Random drug screenings are required.
