In the mid-1990s, a group of dedicated citizens came together to form the Portage Lake Housing Corporation (PLHC) with a shared vision: to create a Senior Housing Complex for retirees who can no longer afford to maintain their own homes but wish to stay in the community they love. Over the years, the PLHC has worked tirelessly toward this goal, planning a safe and affordable living space for low-income seniors, which will be called Mountain Valley Manor. This complex, with 6 to 12 units, will provide comfortable housing with rent based on income, along with all necessary utilities and services, ensuring that our elderly residents can enjoy their Golden Years within the community.

Significant progress has already been made, including the purchase of land next to the Town Hall, preliminary facility designs, cost estimates, and the identification of potential funding sources. The PLHC has dedicated countless volunteer hours to bring this project closer to reality. However, there is still a funding gap of approximately $1 million, and we are actively fundraising and applying for grants to cover construction costs.
