The Portage Lake Transfer Station is permanently closed. Residents and camp owners of Portage Lake are now directed to use the Ashland Transfer Station, located on Wrightville Road in Ashland, for the disposal of household garbage, brush, building materials, white goods, and tires.

If you are a non-resident camp owner, please be aware that you must obtain a permit from the Portage Lake Town Office to use the transfer station services.

Ashland Transfer Station Hours:

  • Tuesdays: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Thursdays: 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Saturdays: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Recycling in Portage Lake

Recycling options are available at the Town Hall. At the back of the building, near the tennis courts, you will find recycling igloos and a glass recycle bin.

Items accepted for recycling include:

  • Milk jugs
  • #2 plastics (check the bottom of your container to ensure it is marked #2, not #1 or #5)
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Tin cans

Recycling helps reduce the amount of waste going into our landfills, so we encourage everyone to recycle whenever possible!
