Portage Lake offers a variety of attractions perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, families, and visitors looking to unwind. Whether you’re interested in spending time at our public beach, exploring historical landmarks, or taking an adventurous ATV ride through Maine’s vast wilderness, our town has something for everyone.
Recreational Area
Located near the Portage Lake Municipal Building, our recreational area features a fitness and bike path, a playground, double tennis courts (also suitable for pickleball), a basketball court, and a baseball field. This is the perfect spot for outdoor fun with friends and family. The Municipal Building can also be rented for special events.

Portage Lake Public Beach
Our public beach is an ideal spot for swimming, picnicking, and family gatherings. Equipped with public parking, charcoal grills, picnic tables, and a new playground (installed in 2021), this beautiful lakeside area is the perfect escape. Restrooms (privies) are also available for your convenience.

Portage Lake Seaplane Base
Portage Lake’s Seaplane Base was once a bustling hub for local flying services, transporting supplies and sportsmen into the North Maine Woods. Today, it is owned by the Town and serves as a landing spot for canoers during the Portage Lake Historical Society’s Annual Canoe Carry, held each August as part of the Portage Lake Summer Roundup.

Centennial Pavilion
Portage Lake’s Centennial Pavilion is an excellent venue for both public and private events. Built in 2008 to commemorate the town’s centennial celebration in 2009, it is situated in an area once known as The Flats, where mill workers lived from 1910 to 1920. The Pavilion is available to rent for private gatherings, or you can simply stop by for a quick lunch or a moment of relaxation. Conveniently located across from the Seaplane Base, it also offers a fantastic vantage point to enjoy the annual fireworks show during the Portage Lake Summer Roundup in August, as well as breathtaking sunsets throughout the year.

ATV Trails
For those who love exploring on four wheels, Portage Lake offers several ATV trails, including a newly opened route connecting Portage Lake to Eagle Lake, giving riders access to the stunning Northern Maine wilderness.
